Atheism Is Poison
C. S. Lewis wrote in his book “The Weight of Glory,”
“Good philosophy must exist, if for no other reason, because bad philosophy needs to be answered.”
Atheism is filled with bad philosophy. I pray this web site will help provide answers to atheism’s madness.
Atheism is poison. It destroyed our way of life. Atheists did this during the Twentieth Century.
Modern atheism started around the Sixteenth Century. Since that time atheists, skeptics, and other freethinkers dismantled our society’s foundational beliefs. They transformed our nation’s world view from Christianity to atheism. And just as Nietzsche predicted, we let them do it. We did this to ourselves!
The atheist world view produced one failure after another. The French Revolution led to the first atheist state and the first Reign of Terror. Racism developed soon after. Atheists in the Nineteenth Century believed some races were more evolved than others. They considered Aryans the most evolved; Africans were last. Yes, atheists developed this view. They encouraged the spreading of this horrible message.
Atheists grasped onto science and Darwinism. Atheists subverted the development of several scientific disciplines. Social Darwinism sucked the soul out of capitalism. The newborn science of genetics was mangled into eugenics.
The Nineteenth Century gave way to the Twentieth. Racism and eugenics were transformed into Hitler’s final solution. Atheism also gave that century the gift of Marxism.
And we stood by and let it happen. We abandoned our Christian world view. We were lured away by the shiny new toys of science. We were distracted by materialism and untold wealth. In the words of the Bible,
“Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the world; but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.” Mark 4: 18-19, NIV
But atheism had only begun.
We Must Restore Belief in the Absolute
Atheism told us there is no God. Atheism told us there is no truth. There are no absolutes. There are no rules. That’s OK, we thought. Those rules just get in the way. Rules are troublesome. They slow us down. We listened. We threw the rules away.
Why did we need truth anyway? People just argue over truth. Democrats and Republicans; Christians and Muslims; the USSR and the West—they all have their own versions of “truth.” So we decided to get rid of truth. We decided each person could have his or her own truth. Whatever you believe is truth for you. Really? What kind of nonsense is this?
We need to restore what we lost. We must restore truth. God is alive! More than that, He is the Sovereign Lord of the universe. Jesus Christ is the Savior of mankind. Jesus Christ can transform your life. That’s the truth!
Many really smart people are working to restore these truths. The purpose for this site is to join in that struggle. We hope to address three key ideas:
(1) What Is Truth?
Truth is the way things really are. That sounds easy. But here’s the problem. What is the true way things really are? People have spent their entire lives searching for truth.
But here’s where we start. We affirm that there really is truth. There is one reality. Truth is the way that reality is. Sounds confusing? But I think you know what I mean. There is only one truth. That’s the truth.
There is a God. He created the heavens and the earth. That’s the truth. There are two sources for knowledge about this God. One is natural. It includes nature, science, and philosophy. These sources establish that there is a God. Belief in God is supported by logic, reason, and the testimony of the material world. This source is called natural theology or general revelation.
The second source is the Word of God. In many ways this is the most important source. Revelation tells us about the person of God. Who is God? What does He want from us? Does He love us? Does He even care that we exist? How can we get close to this God? These are some of the questions answered by God’s Word.
We believe God reveals Himself to us through His word. Jesus Christ is the Word of God. The Bible also is the Word of God. These two sources are the authority for us. They tell us the truth about God. This type of revelation is called special revelation.
(2) What Can We Learn from Natural Theology?
Why bother with natural theology? I’ve heard believers ask that question. “After all,” they say, “natural theology doesn’t tell us anything about Jesus. It doesn’t tell us about the law. You can’t hear God’s promises in natural theology. There is no prophecy from it. Natural theology doesn’t have any of the ‘good stuff’.”
I agree with them to a point. What good is natural theology? For the Christian it’s like watching the trailers before a movie. Sure, it’s interesting. But it’s not the main show. They’re right. For a Christian the main story is Jesus Christ. Natural theology doesn’t say anything about Jesus.
But natural theology is very important. Natural theology builds bridges to bring many unbelievers to God. Natural theology speaks the language of unbelievers. It is based on logic and reason. Natural theology includes philosophical proofs for the existence of God. Natural theology is aided by science and philosophy.
However, many apologetics web sites do not feature natural theology. If they have any natural theology, it’s often buried beneath apologetics that appeals to believers. They discuss subjects of biblical revelation such as the proofs of Jesus’ Resurrection or the reliability of Scripture. For the Christian these are very important topics. They need to be studied.
But the unbeliever has one primary question: Does God exist?
One goal of this web site is to answer that question. The answers most unbelievers need are found through philosophy and natural theology. But philosophy often is difficult to understand. Another goal of this web site is to explain philosophy in simple terms.
Natural philosophy is not competing with Scripture. Both are important. We may be able to see this in Hebrews 11:6, which says:
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” NIV
Natural theology convinces unbelievers that God exists. God’s Word proclaims the rewards for those who come to Christ and abide in Him daily.
(3) Atheism is Poison — Why Is It so Dangerous?
Atheism breaks down established truth and moral codes. Atheism replaces these codes with nothing. That’s right. Literally nothing. There is no God. There are no absolutes. There is only nothing. Atheism calls it “nihilism.” There are no moral codes. There are no values. There are no standards. There is no good or bad.
What does this do to a society? Look around. What do you see? There is only one moral code: if it feels good, do it. There are no values. Court cases are won by the person with the best lawyer. Atheism tells us we are free. Atheism lies. We become more and more enslaved to self-gratification. Our wants and desires consume us.
We must expose atheism for what it is. Atheism destroys lives. Atheism distorts values. Atheism lies about freedom.
The purpose of this web site is to glorify God and to establish truth. May God help us in this task.
